Softly Softly
02 February 2023
Seline P sits on sun-warmed sandstone steps outside a Mediterranean villa, her dark curls still damp and tousled from the heat, an aqua Gymshark sports bra and matching bike shorts the colour of shallow sea water against her olive skin. The terracotta walls glow peach in the late light, cobblestones lead away down the hill, and the whole image has been graded in honeyed, amber tones that make the scene feel like a faded Polaroid from the best summer of your life. Her green eyes are lined in kohl, her lips painted a deep berry red, and the intricate floral tattoos that cover her arms, collarbones, and sternum look like pressed flowers arranged across her body. Softly Softly sets a pace that is slow, warm, and impossibly tender.
The aqua bra lifts away and Seline sits with it crumpled beside her on the stone, her breasts bare and heavy, the mandala ink between them catching every last drop of golden light. She stands and draws the bike shorts down over her tattooed hips, the belly chain at her navel swaying with the movement, and the intricate geometric work that maps her stomach is revealed in its entirety for the first time. In the final frame she sits back on the step, legs folded, completely nude, gaze lowered as though lost in thought, the discarded aqua shorts a splash of colour beside her bare thigh. The warmth of the stone, the quiet of the hillside, and the softness in her downturned eyes make this one of those sets you look at slowly, because rushing it would miss the point entirely.
